To Farm Insurance, and Beyond!
This month Carlisle-based H&H Insurance Brokers celebrate 25 years in the world of agricultural insurance.
When Cumbrian livestock auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington launched the business in 1987 they had no idea they would become one of the country’s leading independent agricultural insurance brokers. Within the last three years they have opened offices in Aberdeen, Cheshire and North Wales and have seen staff number doubling from 13 to 26. H&H Insurance Brokers are a company with a vision and further expansion on the horizon.
As a joint venture between themselves [then called Borderway Insurance Brokers] and Pattinson Edwards, initially the main aim then was to provide an extra service for the farmers who bought and sold through their marts. However in 1994 as a result of increasing customer demand they developed their insurance base to offer a much wider portfolio of products giving their clients a wider choice. This was the start of their expansion across the insurance market, and one of the reasons why the company has expanded in recent years while so many have disappeared.
Managing Director, Philip Pagin who has been with the company since explains this further,
“As agricultural insurers we have witnessed huge growth and changes in the farming industry. We have consistently reviewed and amended our policies and offered new services to accommodate diversified activities undertaken by our client base”.
“We also give considerable thought to our marketing campaigns to ensure we truly connect with our customers and are proud to have been shortlisted for this year’s Insurance Times National Brand Marketing Campaign of the year. This accolade demonstrates not only our commitment to growing the business still further but recognises the time and resources H&H Insurance Brokers have spent in raising the profile of the business in the last 2 years.”
“H&H Insurance Brokers believes its success is also a testament to the relationships they have built over the years. Staff turnover is exceptionally low and the company endeavours to develop our employees and instil our values of “second to-none” personal customer service and being able to provide the very best in insurance advice and brokering”.
The company, still based at Borderway, have expanded their offices once and will be expanding again in the next 18 months. For many companies the growth in the insurance market has remained steady, over the last five years however H&H Insurance Brokers are a company that has surged forward to satisfy the more complex demands of the market.
To conclude Philip tells us of the company’s plans for the future:
“We are determined to remain independent as we believe this enables us to be competitive and offers best value to our customers in terms of product choice.”
“We embrace new technologies if they contribute to our efficiency but remain committed to the traditional values that have served our clients so well and contributed to the growth of the business over the last 25 years”.
