Ednam House Takes On Board New Manager
New General Manager on Board at Renowned Border Fishing Hotel – Ednam House Hotel has announced the appointment of Ken Hardy.
With nearly 20 years’ experience in the hotel industry Ken, a highly experienced hotelier and a natural leader, has returned to his Northern roots. He has taken over the reins of Ednam House Hotel, based in the very heart of the Border town of Kelso, in the key role of General Manager. He joins Ednam House from Best Western Dower House Hotel & Spa, where he held was General Manager for the last four years.
Ken brought up in Rothbury in Northumberland, is a former pupil of King Edward’s High VI in Morpeth and a Graduate of Northumberland College. In his working career he has worked in, and managed some of the leading country independent hotels in Yorkshire and the North East. This includes Grants Hotel in Harrogate, Aldwark Manor Hotel York and The Crown Inn Roecliffe.
Ednam House is his first career move across the Borders and it is one he is very much looking forward to. Commenting on his appointment, Ken said: “Ednam House is one of the most renowned fishing hotels in the World. The hotel also plays a key role in Kelso and the Scottish Borders local tourism industry, and I am looking forward to welcoming and meeting the regular visitors to Ednam House, many who have been staying here for generations.”
“In terms of management, I have a very ‘hands on’ approach and my key aim is to work with the staff, who have all been employed here for many years, to build on the hotel’s reputation and to take the business from strength to strength.”
Ednam House Hotel is the latest acquisition to the portfolio of luxury independent hotels owned by Guyzance Hall Ltd, and the only town house hotel in this private collection. The other hotels include Doxford Hall, Eshott Hall and Guyzance Hall in Northumberland and Dalhousie Castle on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
Commenting on the recent appointment Eric Kortenbach Group Operations Manager said:
“This is a key position for us within the company and we are delighted to have someone of Ken’s calibre joining the team. The hotel may only have recently been purchased however it is very definitely business as usual.
“Our overall objective is to bring the hotel back to its former glory, and to ensure it retains its original features and character. In addition to the day to day operations of running the hotels Ken will also oversee the planned refurbishment programme starting initially with the main banqueting and wedding suite.”
Ednam House is a former 18th Century Georgian Mansion located on the banks of the River Tweed in the center of Kelso.
- It was built as a mansion by James Dickson, a Kelso lad who had returned to his home town after making his fortune in the Spice Trade.
- The property has 32 guest bedrooms.
- There are three acres of landscaped garden overlooking the River Tweed.
- The Hotel has a Ballroom, Restaurant overlooking the River Tweed, and Cocktail Bar which serves bar meals
- Ednam House also has its own smokery, delicatessen and coffee shop
