Doxford Hall Celebrates 4 Red Stars
Doxford Hall Hotel, near Alnwick in Northumberland,
has received the highest accolade in being awarded 4 Red Stars. This prestigious award is only given to the very best hotels in the UK. Doxford Hall now joins an exclusive list of 55 hotels in the UK who have achieved this status.
With 4 Red Stars, Doxford Hall really does stand out from the crowd as AA Hotel Services Manager, Simon Numphud, said: “The criteria for AA Red Stars are consistent excellence in all areas of a hotel’s operation, and Doxford Hall joins an elite group of top performers within the hotel industry. It is encouraging to see that there are still hotels pushing the boundaries and striving for high standards and excellent quality”.
This 31 bedroomed Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa is a magnificent Georgian mansion, set in its own extensive grounds. Attention to detail is evident throughout and earlier this year the restaurant was awarded 2 AA rosettes.
Operating as a hotel for less than five years it has, in
this short length of time, received a handful of accolades, including North East Small Hotel of the Year and 4 Gold Stars for the quality of its staff, accommodation and public areas.
On being presented with the award at the Hilton Park Lane London, , Mr Eric Kortenbach, Doxford Hall’s Operations Director. said:
“To receive 4 Red Stars is a tremendous achievement and one which would not have been possible without the exceptional hard word and commitment of every single member of staff, who work together to deliver the highest of standards in service. This is something that everyone at Doxford Hall has been working towards from the outset and it is an absolute privilege to accept this award on their behalf.
He added, “Not only is this a major milestone for the hotel, it is also a major milestone for Northumberland.”
On hearing that Doxford Hall had received 4 Red Stars, Jude Leitch, Tourism Development Manager for Northumberland Tourism said: “We are absolutely delighted that Doxford Hall is one of our flagship hotels. They have always been great ambassadors for our local food producers and have always provided fantastic levels of service in all areas.”Independently owned and operated Doxford Hall is located close to the Northumberland Coast, midway between Newcastle and Edinburgh. With conference and banqueting space for up to 300 delegates, it is a sought after venue for both the business and leisure markets. It is also one of the venues for the prestigious Northumberland Music Festival, and is scheduled to host a full length performance of La Boheme, this November.
The AA has been recommending hotels since 1908, but in 1912 adopted a more critical approach to the hotels listed in its handbook. The AA’s Secretary then, Stenson Cooke, had once been a wine and spirits salesman and felt that the star rating of brandy would be familiar yardstick to apply to hotels. From then on the AA star rating for hotels was born. Establishments are awarded between one and five stars depending on set criteria following a visit from an AA Hotel Inspector.
